How's that hopey changey thing working out for ya? - 2011 Edition

Calvin used to say to his dad: "Election days is coming dad! Here's some new ideas to relaunch your campaign." 2012 is already around the corner. Obama's hat is already on the ring. For Republicans is time to warm up, because there's no use in taking another (maybe fatal) dose of Hydrogen Barackside.

I should issue a warning about other horrible side effects:
- Makes you see jobs "saved or created" everywhere.
- Nuclear weapons proliferation.
- Users could get stuck in a spending spree way beyond their means.
- Kow-towing to dictators and sneering at friends.
- Mass transport delusions (dreaming of overpriced speedy bullet trains and no-good prohibitively expensive electric cars).

Touchy Europe does not want to see "Simpson's" nuclear references

Europe Removes Nuclear Power Plant Themes From 'The Simpsons' - Starpulse.com It's a little bit of ironic, since one of the longest running gags of the 21-year old cartoon-sitcom is Homer Simpson's colossal ineptitude as the Springfield Nuclear Plant security technician. This already took its toll: Frank Grimes went insane because of it, and quickly found his death inside the plant.

Fortunately, this has anything to do with the leitmotiv... er, main motivation of this blog, nor its main source of inspiration (hahahahHAHAHA! ¡sip has so much good taste!). But if Dr. sipmac were living nearby a nuclear plant in Europe, he could feel the fear, too. (A mineshaft could be handy, BTW). In the meanswhile, a sip... er, a "Simpsons'" joke could be extremely unsensitive ("Do not mention the rope at the house of the hangman").
Since his involvement in that documentary, he knows for sure that, if there's is going to be a cataclismic accident, it's going to be caused by plain tomfoolery, not evil nor greed. However... HOWEVER, it is being said that the true origin of all the Fukushima disaster was the concealed lack of manteinance in the plants. To keep the books in the black, some dark maneuvers like employees' lay-offs and embezzelment of manteninance reports were done. And it was already known in Japan before the quake. Meanness and greed have a role to play, after all.

It makes you think. A lot.

Rebecca Black: the newest Internet sensation deserves a chance, not scorn

Her mean gratuitous detractors want to avoid at all costs that she turns into the female version of Justin Bibier.

Self-esteem is so overrated nowadays. The only thing that keeps Charlie "Winning!" Sheen from looking like the complete pathetic loser he is the big piles of money he earned playing himself in the sitcom Two and a Half Men. That, and the fact that he may be coming back to the sitcom after being sanctimoniously fired. That said, Dr. sipmac could be less scornful of the unbelievable awful photos he finds uploaded to Facebook, but he keeps saying to himself: Ego is the fuel of that dreaded social network... and this blog, too (let's face it).

Then you should better understand why a young girl, with her parent's support, recorded a song and shoot a video and uploaded it to You Tube and unexpectedly become infamous because "Friday", her song is already dubbed "the worst song and video ever", while her video already has 35.000.000 hits and counting.
First of all, the worst song ever is "My Pal Foot Foot", by the all-girl rock band The Shaggs, considered by none other than Frank Zappa "better than The Beatles", but you better have to hear their song (and the rest of the album) to believe it. And ironically, The Shaggs had to endure a lot of pain because of all the contempt and scorn their public had for them, just like Rebecca has to do now. She's 13 years old, for crying out loud!



But, what's to loathe about this new internet sensation? Absolutely nothing. Rebecca's voice is heavily auto-tuned? So what! Most rap, reggaeton and hip-hop artists abuse this resource, too. Hey, the Glee TV Series abuses auto-tuning, too. The song and video are too amateur for your taste? Well, there is room for improvement, but the song is already okay just the way it is. It betrays lack of knowledge of how a standard hit is made, but that makes it fresh and authentic. Just for the sake of the experiment, listen first to "Love Me Do" and then "The End", by The Beatles, and then realize you're listening to the same band with six years of difference. They didn't stay the same during those six years they stayed together as the biggest band ever.

Rebecca might not become the next Madonna or Britney Spears (both of them aren't gifted with great voices, either - and they have both sold a gazillion records already), but it seems her mean gratuitous detractors want to avoid at all costs that she turns into the female Justin Bibier success story. And that reeks of plain old jealousy to me. The video shows real teenagers, with pimples and not-so-cute faces. But it shows a very cute girl following her dreams and aiming big. She is trying, and with the right advisory, she can become an accomplished pop singer.
