AMIS NIX TINTIN FLIX?
Americans went to watch “The Incredibles” and “Cars”, lured in by one sole word: Pixar. Those were brand new concepts, created out of nothing, huge gambles in the sequel-and-known-brand-only film era. And they got critical and popular acclaim, so the bets paid off.
The “Steven Spielberg Presents” tag is a proven audience magnet. Unbelievable as it is, Spielberg himself casted doubts in the success of his “Indiana Jones for kids” movie, “The Secret of the Unicorn”, featuring comic-book Belgian superstar Tintin. It doesn’t make any sense: why the fears about an US flop?
A hint of elitist anti-Americanism can be detected in those reservations. It presupposes that the American audiences will never cherish an European import. Following that flawed reasoning, the Beatles, the Stones, Sean Connery, Maserati, Volvo and a very long etcetera never stood a chance. Sorry for them.
This is the only stain in a very good movie, besides the poorly taken decision to release the movie in a tentpole saturated season. “The Adventures of Tintin” would have shone incredibly between September and November of last year. Returning to the elitist wiff, I can accept that Spielberg premiered the movie first in Europe out of pure respect (like the affectionate way Hergé appears in the first scene of the movie), but if he tried to “get word of mouth success” to attract the American public into the cinemas, it shows jaw-dropping inconsistence. If Americans would not buy the Tintin concept, why would they care about the movie’s European success?
Which leads to the real reason of the somewhat lackluster American box-office performance: in spite of the terrific job Mr. Spielberg did adapting the source material and the wonderful staging of the best animation I’ve seen so far, the accomplished director did not know how to market his own triumph. Disappointing, considering the director’s career. Kind of expected, if you think about the still recent “Crystal Skull” fiasco.
Looks like hanging out with the current version of George Lucas can damage your moviemaking skills.

That said, I hope Tintin makes it to the Oscars and can’t really wait for the two projected sequels.

Independence Day in the United States (Quiz) - Who appears more free?
Happy Independence Day! Happy Birthday America! Now, let's take a quiz (please, don't run, it's a quiz with pictures!):
Please select the pictures where the women appear to be more free:

I thought so. It's a no brainer. Even if you look at the sign, you can't be convinced of what it says.

If you really, really want to know a firsthand account about conservatism...
… not a biased one, and you don’t have time even for a crash course then you should check the #tcot:Ann Coulter: sarcasm with a no-prisoners approach. With 8 New York Times-listed bestsellers, and not a single review by them. Why?
Iowahawk: best living satirist in the USA! People in the other team wish they were with them!
Mark Steyn: Irony combined with erudition.
Rush Limbaugh: A William F. Buckley with humor and charisma for the masses. Feared by the left because of his alleged “hypnotic” powers that keep tuned to his radio show about 20 million listeners from Monday to Friday. Biggest radio personality in the States. Bigger than Howard Stern.
Dennis Miller: he found out that life was more than “Saturday Night Live”.
Greg Gutfeld: his humorous 3AM show “Red Eye” has MORE audience than MOST CNN shows.
Cynthia Yockey: a conservative lesbian that learned the hard way that the left was not for her. And she knows a thing or two about neuroscience!

Superman the Apostate
Well. well, well. It is a not-so-known fact that fictional characters (ahem), specially comic-book characters cannot act against their own psychology, or if you pardon my french, their raison d'être. Superman came a long way into becoming a full-blown liberal, but in Action Comics 900th commemorative edition, he finally jumps the shark for good.Jerome Siegel and Joseph Shuster, with immigrant blood themselves, made their magnum opus to stand for “truth, justice, the American way”, and if Kal-El, a.k.a. Clark Kent, a.k.a. the Man of Steel, a.k.a the Man of Tomorrow wants to renounce his american citizenship, well... this is it. Supes must be stronger than a locomotive, but has the political reasoning of a drunk frat boy. Instead of defending his given set of values with even more energy, he becomes more concerned with appearances and what America's enemies think.
Or as I said in "I Hate the Media":
Supes is not a plain old fashioned superhero anymore. To catch up with current trends he became a PC-tree-hugging-hippie-metrosexual-leftist-airhead-globalist community organizer!

Yes, I'm back! In your face, Maršić!

I'm sick and tired of this eleven thing - Estoy cansado del cuentecito del once
There, I've said it. Why on earth some crucial events in the Muslim world have something to do with the number 11? You know, 9/11 in New York, 11-M in Madrid, and now... 2/11 in Egypt! It is supposed that friday is the most sacred day in the moslem culture, but what about the number eleven?Frigging numerology.
I can't stand it anymore, this is getting boring (eleven is a boring number, soccer notwithstanding).
By the way, you anxious numerologists, this is the 183rd post of this blog (its name has twelve characters), and the result of adding the digits is 12.
That's more I like it.

Is Obama feeling the heat now?
Dr. sipmac doesn't really know by now. But the far left is enraged because Obama, their anointed one, decided to back up the Bush tax cuts for two more years (talk about heresy!). Some people think this is another clever and democrat ruse, but the democratic congressional caucus already said "F&% the president". The shockwave hit so hard, that Saturday Night Live couldn't resist sending Fred Armisen to make the cold opening:Why Obama suddenly realized that a growing economy is the best job creation policy? Why does he favor now the Bush tax cuts as a way to stimulate the economy? Why does this tax break have a duration of only two years? Why did he leave Clinton talking in *his* podium like he were still president?
Stay tuned next week, same bat-hour, same bat-channel.Related articles

A-Holes of the Year 2010
In no particular order of appeareance, Dr. sipmac will post for the second time at the sipmac ensemble blogs a well-deserved scorn-a-thon of a few of the undisputed gaffetastic a-holes of this year. Without further ado:
I didn't fool you, I'm for real!
Helen Thomas: she alone could close the list. She could have made a gaffe months ago, but now, she committed proffessional suicide by proclaiming she's not only anti-Israel but anti-semitic, too. She must be a hundred years now, and she should know by now a lot better; but, let's face it: by gender she must have been a pioneer, but by political views, she must have been from stone age. Yes, indeed.
Annie, are you ok?
Joe Jackson: if there was anything clear in Michael Jackson's mind, it must have been the role of his father, Joe Jackson, which finally lost his last chance in the Michael Jackson's Last Will Jackpot. Now he rants and rants, but nobody believed him from the very start. Michael Jackson could have been anything, but he did finally screw him.
I'm as good in real life!
Charlie Sheen: I wish I could post him as my year's hero, but now I wonder how is possible that his hit sitcom, based loosely in his personal life, finds new life in a eight season, after a lot of turmoil, in spite of his personal behavior, I cannot do something else that nominate him as one best optioned to be one this years' leading a-holes. Way to go, Charles! Two years in a row! Speaking of which...
Don't be afraid!
Barack Obama: no matter what he says, he's more deluded than Carter and Bush combined. The one and only to understand that his own party shellacking has more to do with his lack of communication (ilack of communication in a rethorical giant?) than bad policies executed along the last two years. Anyway, you just say "I blame Bush!"
The Formoltv plaintiff: he or she should have known better. If s/he have read the entire blog, s/he should have find out what the blog was all about, and not only about them. S/he should have learn the webowners were lawfully experienced. Quite a winner!
I'm such a badass!
Julian Assange: Pul-eeze! He should have known better! Time's Person of the Year? He was fighting not only against the United States of America, but the reat of the civilized (and diplomatized) World. Now that he's experiencing some difficulties, now he's menacing about some sort of "doomsday device", like a vulgar terrorist. Puh-leeze, man up an publish anything you have, you moron, you a-hole!
Unity in the midst of diversity! Hah!
The European Union: the welfare state is collapsing, thanks to them, and the European Union is collapsing thanks to the irresponsible politics carried on for almost four generations.
This years' finalists: Hugo Chávez - years and years of stupidity and a-holeness, Álvaro Uribe - a newcomer via twitter, now he does not find out that his schtick is not interesting anymore now he's not a president.

Still sick - but fighting!
As I told you before, I'm pretty sick these days. Broncopneumonia, and the doctors scared me to death. They warned me a lot, telling me I should rest a lot and take a gazillion medicines. Well, even today I'm not feeling strong enough to resume my normal activities, and, if I take the doctors' advice seriously, it would be unwise to even try now, too.
It's been a period on time when I found with great disappointment that the American Healthcare Reform is still alive and well (they should ask ME how I get my medical attention through this rotten system - as I told someone before, I'm always on the verge of taking legal action against my medical company to get some healthcare - pretty darn funny, huh?), and found great pageant activity lately, both in North and South America. Sorry, but that activity has been soaked with lethal doses of stupidity.
Gone is the goodwill and simpathy I had for Carrie Prejean. Look, she's a celebrity wannabe, and she (and her manager, whoever-might-be) doesn't know how to deal with a scandal, or the press, or a soft interview! She attempted to leave the interview she had with Larry King. Larry King! She is selling a book, too. The photo of the cover makes her look like a martyr, something apparently she likes to be. If she wants a career, she should know better.
Diana María Salgado shamelessly abused the Colombian Constitution so she could travel to Cartagena and do the National Pageant! Puh-leeze! And I'll never forget the judge. He deserves punishment, too.
In the neighborhood, a country is sinking rapidly in a hole of blackouts and water rationings. A country soaked in oil, but it has to import energy from countries with less energy potential! The simple solution: a call for war against the neighbors!
This week, South Park simply S-U-C-K-E-D. If you've been watching the show for years, you should know a couple of things about its creators. Its ideology is far from liberal. They aren't conservatives, either. They are somewhat libertarian. But "Dances With Smurfs" is plain laziness. You even laugh watching the episode. You know they like to shock, and more than once they prefer to be funny instead of being fair. This time is the former, beacause they mocked the legitimate concerns of a popular movement. They are not helping anybody but the people that spent the entire summer trivialising and mocking the movement while burning trillions of dollars in yet-to-be-seen stimulus.
Oh, and Britney Spears Twitter account has been hacked.
